Personality Traits
The Johari Window uses carefully selected adjectives to map personality. Arena traits describe the strengths you and others recognize. Blind Spot traits capture qualities others perceive in you that you may not see yourself. Together, they form a complete picture of how personality shows up in relationships.
Arena Traits (Johari Window)
These 56 adjectives represent positive personality qualities. In the Johari Window exercise, traits selected by both you and your peers land in the Arena, the space of shared awareness and mutual understanding.
Blind Spot Traits (Nohari Window)
These 43 adjectives represent personality blind spots and shadow qualities. The Nohari Window reveals traits that others notice but you may be unaware of, or qualities you actively avoid acknowledging.
How These Traits Are Used
In the original Johari Window exercise, you pick five or six adjectives that you believe describe you. Then a group of peers independently selects adjectives they associate with you. The overlap between your selections and theirs creates a map of four rooms:
- Arena: traits both you and others chose (open self)
- Mask: traits only you chose (hidden self)
- Blind Spot: traits only others chose (unknown to you)
- Shadow: traits neither you nor others chose (unconscious)
On this site, each trait is cross-referenced with MBTI cognitive functions and Enneagram motivations, connecting adjective-based self-perception to deeper personality frameworks.
